STILL NO SITE FOR STREET VENDORS

Maseru, Sept. 04 — Despite the interim order granted by the High Court to Roma Street Vendors Association in July against removing or demolishing their structures / stalls, the vendors have still not got a new site to operate from.

The interim order followed the vendors’ application in which they wanted the court to stop the Roads Directorate from removing them or demolishing their structures.

The vendors operating from Ha Scout to Selakheng along the National University of Lesotho (NUL) fence were supposed to have removed their structures by July 06 to make way for the ongoing A5 road rehabilitation from St. Michael’s to Roma. However, on the said day, some vendors removed their structures while some did not hence the interim order.

Speaking in an interview, the Association’s Chairperson, Mr. Thabiso Mafoso told the Agency that they have not found a site yet. He said before the court interdict, the Member of Parliament (MP) and the Council had facilitated their talks with the NUL Management but said since they sought the court order, there has not been any communication between the parties.
