MATLAMA THROUGH TO PEOPLE”S CUP FINAL

Maseru, March 16 — Matlama FC booked their place in this year’s edition of People’s Cup final after beating Linare FC at the first semi-final played at Sam Matekane stadium at Bocheletsane in Mantsonyane on Saturday.

Matlama came from 1-0 down to secure a 1-1 draw after Rethabile Mokokoane’s clinical header in the second half, cancelling Tsepo Lekhanya’s first half lead.

Both teams started the match early under the scorching heat and struggled to control the match.

However, Linare was the first to settle down and began dictating the game hence Lekhanya’s first half goal.

Matlama’s Coach Mr. Halemakale Mahlaha sensed the defeat and made substitutions which ultimately paid dividends as they changed the complection of the game with the likes of Phafa Tsosane.

The match ended with one goal apiece and the match had to be decided on penalties with Matlama triumphant via a 4 – 3 in the sudden death.

In a post match interview, Matlama Coach gave credit to his players for having shown character by coming from behind to eventually winning the game on penalties.

He said Linare was not just an ordinary team and that he had anticipated the match could be decided on penalties.

On the other side Linare’s Coach Mr. Bob Mafoso said his players did not deserve to lose the match after playing well.

He lamented the goal they conceded through a set piece saying they had anticipated it and planned accordingly as it was the only way Matlama could score.

He however congratulated Matlama for having advanced to the final.

Linare’s Lisema Lebokollane was selected as the player of the match.

Matlama will play the winner of Bantu and Lesotho Mounted Police Service which clashed in the second semifinal of the doubleheader.
