MEDIA URGED TO DRIVE GBV AWARENESS IN LESOTHO

Maseru, Nov. 13 — The Minister of Information, Communication, Science and Technology, Ms. Nthati Moorosi has urged media to be used as platforms and powerful tools in the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Speaking at the two-day Strategic Dialogue and Stock-Take Joint Sub-Regional Initiative for Addressing GBV Against Women and Girls in Southern Africa, which began in Maseru on Thursday, Ms. Moorosi said media can play a transformative role in shaping attitudes and raising awareness on GBV.

She noted that platforms such as radio, television and social media reach a wide audience and can be instrumental in promoting gender equality and justice.

She delineated that despite the pain that survivors endure, their stories must be told, as they have the power to inspire others and change mindsets.

The Minister further called for the decentralisation of awareness campaigns, saying that the fight against GBV should not be limited to urban areas adding that there is a need to take this message to the villages, schools and churches so that everyone becomes part of the solution…
