FORMER STUDENT SENTENCED FOR STEALING CELLPHONES

Qacha’s Nek, Oct. 29 — Resident Magistrate ‘Mampho Mokoena has sentenced Thapelo Tontsi, a 25-year-old former student of Makhaola high school from Lifofaneng, to three years in prison or a M6,000 fine for stealing cellphones from current students.

Tontsi faced three counts of housebreaking and theft, each resulting in a one-year sentence or M2,000 fine, which he failed to pay. 

The magistrate ordered the return of the stolen cellphones to their rightful owners.

On October 15, 2024, Tontsi broke into a classroom at Makhaola High, stealing an Itel A60 valued at M1,000 from Mpeoana Molise, a Hisense A4 worth M900 from Nofundo Fako, and a Nokia C1 worth M800 from Moleboheng Mosothoane…
