Maseru, Aug. 31 — The Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development held a parents meeting at various schools in Maseru and Berea districts for grade eight (8) and nine (9) who do not receive grants from the ministry.

According to the Senior Bursary Officer, the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development, Mrs. Liteboho Letsie mentioned that as the ministry they have visited high schools which include Qoaling High School, Thabana-Tsoana, St. Rodrigue, Matsekha, Immaculate Mona and Mohatlane.

She stressed that as the ministry they have decided to grant students who do not receive grants with M1500 uniform grant.

“This grant will only be received by students who come from less privileged families,” she said.

She states that this will be received only once a year for 3 years, so the guardians should use the grant for the benefit of the students.

“With this grant, guardians are expected to buy school shoes, jerseys, shirts, trousers as the ministry will visit schools to check whether the funds were properly used,” she implied.

She mentioned that these funds will only be given to the person responsible for the child to avoid fraud.

“When collecting funds, one should provide identity documents, a student’s birth certificate and the letter from school as proof that the child is part of that school,” she mentioned.

She indicated that they will continue with other districts next week and the visitations will end September on 19.
