Maseru, Feb. 13 — The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has shown great concern on the recent sale of eggs that seems to be very slow across the country.
This comes after the Ministry banned the entry of eggs into the country with effect from January 01 with the purpose of increasing sales and earning market for local producers.
Speaking in an interview with the Agency on Thursday, the Marketing Manager of the Department of Marketing within the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mrs. ‘Malehlomela Thakabanna said that although there has been compliance from most Basotho, business owners and producers, there are still defaulters though they are reported at very low rates.
She mentioned that with the ongoing low sales of eggs across the country despite the lowered prices by producers, the suspicion is that there are people who are still smuggling eggs into the country despite the ban.
