MOETI WINS SADC MEDIA AWARD

Maseru, Aug 18 — Lesooana Moeti, a Journalist under the department of Lesotho National Broadcasting Service (LNBS) within the Ministry of Information has won SADC media award during the 43rd heads of state summit in Angola this week.

Speaking with the Agency on Friday, Moeti who has more than 10 years’ experience in Journalism indicated that he came out second position in the radio category, adding other categories were in the areas of photography, television and print.

“I am thankful and grateful over the honour that comes with a certificate and 1000 US dollars, this has truly lifted my morale,” he said.

He elaborated that his radio story interest was on SADC cyber infrastructure framework implementation adopted by the region to respond to regional development challenges, hence the need to use High Performance Computing (HPC) to obtain timely and reliable results on climate change to prepare and avoid catastrophic natural calamities, among others.

He noted that early detection and interpretation of climate related phenomenon is essential for sustainable economic advancement and Lesotho should take advantage of HPC in different sectors and invest more on research development.

Talking to local Journalists, he reminded the media as the watch dog that they have power to portray a new narrative seeking to ensure economic growth in Lesotho and regional rather than focus on issues that divide the nation.

The SADC Media awards aims to promote regional integration. This year’s summit was held under the theme ‘Human and Financial Capital: The Key Drivers for Sustainable Industrialization in the SADC region’. SADC summit is responsible for the overall policy direction and control of functions of the Community among others.
