MURDER SUSPECT ASSAULTS AN OFFICER AT A POLLING STATION

Mohale’s Hoek, September 30 — Lesotho Mounted Police Public Relations Officer Senior Superintendent Kabelo Halahala, has confirmed that a police officer in his mid 30’s was assaulted at a polling station at Ketane Ha Thabo Matete on Friday.

SSP Halahala indicated that the officer who was once deployed at Ketane, is stated to have spotted a man who happened to be a murder suspect, in a queue to cast his vote, and the latter approached the man asking to have a word with him after he had  voted.

Halahala further highlighted that immediately after the latter had voted he ran away, and an officer followed him to no avail, but later came back with about 5 men after the polling station had already been closed, demanding to vote.

SSP articulated after a long conversation with the presiding officer who was trying to convince those men about the closure of the station, the man who is a suspect hit an officer with an object from behind, and all other men joined in assaulting him.

He however noted that the officer was admitted at Roma hospital in the early hours of Saturday, treated and released, and concluded by noting that investigations have been established.
