Maseru, Aug. 26 — African Union (AU) held the National Stakeholder’s Consultation and Validation Workshop for National Blue Economy Strategy for Lesotho in Maseru today.
According to Dr. Patrick Karani, from AU-IBAR who was presenting on Africa Blue Economy Strategy Implementation Plan mentioned that the Blue Economy refers to the sustainable use of ocean and water resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods and jobs while preserving the health of aquatic ecosystems.
He indicated that Africa with its extensive coastlines, rich biodiversity, and significant inland water bodies, stands poised to become a leader in the global blue economy.
“The implementation of this strategic plan is a significant step towards realizing this potential,” he said.
