Qacha’s Nek, Aug. 27 — Qacha’s Nek Principal Chief Mojela Makotoko Theko Makhaola publicly introduced Chief Lerotholi Makhaola of Matebeng, Ha Lelingoana as the new Town Chief at Melele ground despite widespread resistance from residents.
This introduction follows the April 2025 dismissal of former Town Chief Nkuebe Makhaola, a decision that sparked local outrage and led to Chieftainess ’Mamothalali Sehahle of Letlapeng being appointed in an interim capacity.
Addressing the crowd on Wednesday, the Principal Chief reiterated his authority to appoint whoever he deems fit.
“I am happy that you brought me here and I will take this opportunity to introduce the new chief,” he said, moments after the public had expressed they did not want him.
