Maseru, Sept. 23 — Big changes are on the horizon for Lesotho’s food sector, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Limpho Tau has announced that the government is working on a plan to remodel the Food Management Unit (FMU) into a modern, high-capacity hub that will not only manage storage but also help farmers access both local and international markets.
According to Mr. Tau, the new vision for FMU is to elevate it into a powerful aggregator, bridging the gap between farmers and buyers.
“Our farmers work hard, but often struggle to secure sustainable markets for their produce. This remodel will change that,” he explained.
Senator Motsamai welcomed the Minister’s plans, commending the forward-looking approach. He stressed the importance of ensuring that FMU is not only a buyer and seller of raw produce but also a driver of food processing.
