NKHETSÉ URGES PARENTS TO RECONNECT WITH CHILDREN AMID RISING SOCIAL CHALLENGES

Maseru, Sept. 01 — The Chairperson of the Letlotlo Boy-Child Program, Mr. Harry Nkhetsé, has urged parents to take a closer look at how their actions shape the behavior of their children.

Speaking in an interview with the Agency, Mr. Nkhetsé said counseling sessions with young people revealed worrying patterns of behavior that can be traced back to modern parenting styles and pressures of the 4th industrial revolution.

He noted that with nearly 90 percent of parents being part of the working class, many spend long hours away from home, leaving little time to bond with their children. In an attempt to fill this gap, parents often provide material items such as money, cars, or phone gestures that, while well-intentioned, leave many children without proper accountability or guidance.

“These actions make children feel entitled to everything, and this entitlement is one of the reasons some of them end up skipping school, experimenting with alcohol, or getting involved in drugs,” Mr. Nkhetsé explained.
