Business could not proceed in the National Assembly on Monday morning due to the absence of a quorum.
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Tlohang Sekhamane, suspended proceedings for about 20 minutes to allow Members of Parliament (MPs) to assemble and form the required quorum.
However, the number of MPs present remained below 30. Mr. Sekhamane subsequently adjourned the House until Tuesday.
The Lesotho News Agency has learned that the non-attendance of MPs has become a growing concern.
During the recent re-opening of Parliament after the Christmas holidays, the Speaker highlighted absenteeism as one of the key challenges affecting the smooth functioning of the House.
Meanwhile, the House had been scheduled to debate a motion on the adoption of the report on the annual budget and estimates of revenue and expenditure for the 2026/2027 financial year.
The report was tabled on March 13, 2026.
Debate on the financial policy was also listed among the day’s business. A quorum in the National Assembly requires at least 30 members to be present in order for proceedings to commence.
