Quthing, March 07 — The ongoing maintenance of clean water supply projects from different villages in four councils of Quthing district are expected to be completed by Friday this week.
In an interview, the District Assist Economic Planner Mr. Khotso Nokoaana said lack of clean water supply will be a story of the past for the community from various villages in six councils after completion of clean water supply projects maintenance.
He noted that the water projects maintenance started earlier last month and they are being carried out by different construction companies under the supervision of the district Department of Rural Water Supply.
He indicated that the maintenance covers villages of Mphoko-Beketsana in Qqomoqomong community council, Ts’epong in Mjanyane community council, Pulane in Telle community council and Seaka in Quthing Urban
council.
The District Assistant Economic Planner further said the clean water supply maintenance covers repairs and extensions of the projects as residents have increased in some villages.
He said the district council is only responsible for maintenance and extension of clean water projects in the councils while the Department of Rural Water Supply is responsible for construction of new clean water supply and maintenance of the projects.
He said in the last financial year 2021/22, the district council failed to be engaged in the maintenance of clean water supply projects due to unforeseen circumstances to pay some construction companies whose payments were behind due to financial constraints.
The above mentioned projects are expected to cost more than M600 million.
