Mohale’s Hoek, June 09 — The Lesotho Defence Force Public Relations Officer Csptain Sakeng Lekola has on Sunday confirmed that the Operation Hard Fist was carried out in Taung on Saturday.
Cpt.Lekola stated this in an interview with the Agency, where he noted that the purpose of the operation is mainly to remove illegal firearms in communities across the country.
He further articulated that they seized a 9 mm firearm, 2 Magazines and 7 bullets, and stated that the LDF Act No:4 of 1996, Section 5 (c) permits them to fight crime which he noted seems to be spiralling out of control in the country.
Cpt. concluded by articulating that the rate at which Basotho are being murdered country wide should indeed be a call for concern, hence these types of operations.
Meanwhile, an officer commanding Mohale’s Hoek Police Station Superintendent Thato Ramarikhoane stated that they were not aware of the operation until he received a call informing him about one villager who reported the incident of assault during the operation.
