OVERSIGHT INSTITUTIONS CRY FOUL OF LACK OF INDEPENDENCE

Maseru, Aug.13 — The Auditor General Ms. ‘Mathabo Makenete said it could be that some of the limitations of funding to the oversight institutions could be deliberate as to hinder progression of such institutions.

This the Auditor General said at the meeting which was held by the National assembly with the purpose of establishing mechanisms of cooperation with oversight institutions that report to the parliament.

In this meeting, Ms. Makenete said  a lot can be done by such institutions when enough funds are allocated  and a ceiling is not put above them mentioning that her office specifically can have an increase in its audit coverage when it’s independence is bestowed upon them

She also mentioned that it is their wish to see the recommendations done by oversight institutions presented before the national assembly after being tabled before ministers as it will only be through such reports that transparent service delivery can be attained. . . .
