PEKA MAJOR CALVERT BREAKDOWN HITS COUNTRY’S ECONOMY HARD

Maseru, Feb. 16 — The breakdown of the Peka Major Calvert has dealt a severe blow not only to the surrounding communities but also to the country’s economy, according to findings revealed during a recent visit to the construction site on Friday.

The Northern region, renowned for its ongoing projects such as Lets’eng Diamond, Kao Mine, and Liqhobong, among others, has been significantly impacted since the calvet’s breakdown, making it increasingly challenging for workers to commute to their respective job sites.

Mr. Leteketa Mokhoane, a supervisor at the construction site, disclosed that repair work on the calvert commenced in October 2023 and is slated for completion by July of this year. However, the project has encountered a series of obstacles since its inception, including heavy rainfall in December, delays in material deliveries from suppliers, and issues with the reliability of essential personnel in the construction zones. . .
