PHAMONG RECEIVES NEW PRINCIPAL CHIEF

Maseru, Sept. 03 — Theko Letsie Bereng has been officially sworn in as the new Principal Chief (PC) of Phamong, Mohale’s Hoek. The ceremony took place today before the House of the Senate.

This appointment follows the passing of the previous Chieftainess, Nthati Bereng, who succumbed to cancer. Her death marked the end of a notable leadership period in the Phamong community.

In her address, President of the Senate Mrs. Mamonaheng Mikitimi emphasised that today marks the beginning of a new chapter filled with responsibilities.

She highlighted the importance of working diligently in the public’s best interests and fulfilling the King’s mandate of serving with honesty and transparency.

In an interview following the swearing-in, Chief Theko Letsie Bereng expressed his deep gratitude for the appointment.

He vowed to honor the legacy of Chieftainess Nthati Bereng by continuing her work and addressing the community’s needs with dedication.

Chief Letsie Bereng, born in 1977, is a sibling to the late husband of Chieftainess Nthati Bereng.

Prior to his new role, he served in the Chiefs’ office at Khohlong, Ha Motumi, where he gained significant experience in local governance.

The appointment of Chief Letsie Bereng is anticipated to bring a new era of leadership and continuity to the Phamong community.
