MASERU – The Prime Minister (PM), Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane arrived at the Moshoeshoe l International Airport on Saturday from Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria where he attended Breaking Barriers to Trade and Leadership Summit 2026 in Abuja, Nigeria.
Speaking in an interview upon arrival at the Airport, Foreign Affairs and International Relations Minister, Mr. Limpho Tau said the summit afforded an opportunity for PM and his delegation to interact with giants in oil as well as gas sector, especially at this time when Lesotho is exploring means to have oil hub (fuel security).
He added that the Middle East wars have demonstrated that Lesotho has fuel insecurities, one that is unable to last for more than three days should there-be crisis.
“Our intention is to have fuel that can sustain us at-least three months or more in cases of emergencies, hence the summit enabled PM’s meetings with Governors to explore the how part and tactics.”
Therefore, he said Abuja, Nigeria serving as the political and administrative hub for Nigeria oil and gas sector was a good space to have hosted the summit.
Meanwhile, he mentioned that apart from the fact that the PM had an honour to deliver his spech while partaking in activities of the summit, he was also accompanied by locals in the business of hospitality amongst others.
Furthermore, Minister Tau said at least three youth under ‘SEBABATSO’ initiative also got a chance to present to Abuja Chamber of Commerce as well as the summit itself.
The said youth, he stated include the one who has developed an application on betting, the other one was presenting on waste management through bio gas amongst others.
Prior to attending the summit, Mr. Tau said the PM started in China where he was on a working visit, building more partnerships on health related matters to mention a few.Nigeria is reported to be a multinational state with 250 ethnic groups speaking about 500 distinct languages, that is varitey of culture.
This African country is noted on different documents to have a population estimated at around 242.4 million.
