PM PASSESS CONDOLENCES TO KENYA

Maseru, Oct. 17 — Prime Minister (PM) of Lesotho, Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane has passed condolences to Kenya on behalf of Basotho for the passing on of its former PM, Raila Odinga who died on Wednesday this week.

In his communication, the PM conveyed his heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to the President of the Republic of Kenya, the government and the people of Kenya during the difficult moment of national mourning.

Mr. Matekane described Dr. Odinga as a steadfast champion of democracy, unity, and social justice, whose remarkable leadership and unwavering commitment to Pan-African solidarity left an indelible mark on the African continent.

“His Excellency, Dr. Raila Odinga will be remembered as a true son of Africa, a leader whose vision, courage, and conviction inspired generations across borders. His lifelong dedication to peace, democracy, and the empowerment of African people will forever remain a beacon of hope. The Kindom of Lesotho stands in solidarity with the government and people of Kenya as they mourn the passing of this iconic statesman,” Mr. Matekane commented.

Raila Amolo Odinga was born on 7 January 1945, was a Kenyan politician who served as Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013. He was the leader of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Party.

He died on the 15th October 2025.

Odinga’s state funeral will be held on Friday and he will be laid to rest on Sunday.
