Maseru, Jan. 16 — The Prime Minister (PM), Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane handed over 29 vehicles and six motorcycles to security agencies at PTC on Friday.
A total of six vehicles were given to Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) including six motorbikes whereas 23 vehicles were presented to National Security Service (NSS).
In his handing over speech, the PM said the vehicles are meant to serve the nation as a whole rather than the interests of certain individuals.
He mentioned that government strongly believes in equipping sectors with relevant equipment so that they can serve without hindrances.
The PM reiterated that the increasing rate of crime in the country is alarming, urging security agencies guided by their intelligence to enhance safety and security of the society.
The PM remembered with shame a civil servant who was arrested on Thursday by DCEO after being found to be selling government services.
“These are illegal activities, depriving Basotho the right to services, hence must be stopped immediately, ” he stressed.
Similarly, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s office, Mr. Limpho Tau said both departments LMPS and NSS will benefit tremendously from the motor vehicles and motorcycles in terms of speeding up service delivery.
He added that this initiative comes after a similar activity last year, where District Administrators were also presented with the same gesture.
“It is our fervent hope that the long outcry by Basotho relating to service delay will be addressed,” he said.
In the same note and on behalf of LMPS and NSS, Commissioner of Police, Borotho Matsoso expressed gratitude that security agencies were awarded vehicles appealing to users of these assets to handle them with care.
Over and above that, he affirmed to the PM that he will with support of his team work hard for protection of citizens livelihoods and their property.
This event saw the presence of Minister of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police, Mr. Lebona Lephema and other Cabinet Ministers including other officials.
