QACHA’S NEK UNFAZED BY UPCOMING EGG IMPORT BAN

Qacha’s Nek, Dec. 30 — The January 1, 2025, egg import restriction will not impact Qacha’s Nek, as the district sources eggs within Lesotho rather than imports, according to Mrs. Nyakallo Pokocho, District Agricultural Officer (DAO) for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition (MAFSN).

Mrs. Pokocho explained that Melele relies primarily on eggs from districts like Leribe.

“This restriction will not affect Qacha’s Nek. Neighboring Matatiele, which Melele often depends on for food, lacks an egg supplier. The district is adequately served by national supply,” she said during an interview with the Agency on Monday.

District Animal Production Officer (DAPO) Mr. Mohapi Lits’oane highlighted the district’s limited local production but noted steady progress.
