Leribe, March 05—Despite the Menkhoaneng area holding vast historical significance for the nation, the community continues to face a lack of essential infrastructural development.
Speaking in an interview with the Agency on Thursday, one community member, Mrs. ‘Manneko Mahapa said lack of access roads, water and electricity remains among the hardships they endure.
She stated that despite the rich history associated with their area, residents are beginning to lose hope and interest in events hosted there as they do not bring any meaningful development to the community.
She mentioned that while national events often attract visitors and attention to the area, the living conditions of local residents remain unchanged, leaving many feeling neglected and overlooked.
Sharing similar sentiments, Mrs. ‘Mamoqenehela Sechaba indicated that for the longest time politicians have taken advantage of their vulnerability, often using the community during political campaigns without addressing their needs afterward.
She mentioned that leaders frequently make promises during campaign periods, but once elections are over, the community is left without the improvements they had hoped for.
She further appealed to the government and relevant stakeholders to consider prioritizing infrastructure development in Menkhoaneng so that residents can also benefit from the historical and cultural significance of their area.
