BOS WARNED OF JOB SCAMMERS AHEAD OF CENSUS

Maseru, Dec. 04 — As the Bureau of Statics (BOS) continues to prepare for the upcoming population census to commence in April 2026, the department has been warned of job scammers to ensure Basotho do not fall into their traps.

This, transpired during the Heads of Departments meeting held in Maseru on Thursday.

Maseru District Administrator (DA) Mr. Ts’epo Lethobane warned that bigger projects such as population census attract scammers particularly on applications done online, based on high rate of unemployment.

BOS Senior Statistician Mrs. Mantsane Monaheng revealed that the census is expected to create about 9,000 job opportunities for Basotho, indicating that 1,600 supervisors will be hired through the Ministry of Public Service and will only be Degree holders.

She added that 8,000 Numerators who hold Diploma and Certificate will apply online, indicating that applications are expected to resume between this month and January and will be followed by training for those who have been successful.

Lesotho Population Census is conducted every 10 years and the last census was carried out in 2016.  Reports indicate that in this last census, Lesotho had a total population of 2,007,201, comprising 982,133 males and 1, 025, 068 females.
