ROAD ACCIDENTS FATALITIES INCREASE IN 2024


Maseru, Jan. 21 — At least 38 people died in road accidents over Christmas holidays and this
number has increased in comparison to last year’s.

This is according to the Christmas road safety campaign report from the department of Road
Safety, adding that 226 injuries were reported and that the overall number of accidents is 399.
It indicates that most offences were pertaining to over speeding in this campaign, saying it
was discovered that most drivers lack knowledge about speed limits as per the Road Traffic

Act and that drivers do not comply with road signs relating to speed.
It adds that amongst screened drivers, some seemed to be drunk but tested under legal limit
and some drivers used escape routes to avoid alcohol screening, and that the most frequent
age group of intoxicated drivers was 31 to 40…
