ROUTINE INSPECTION HARDLY CONDUCTED AT MCCI- INMATE

Maseru, July 08 — Routine inspection is hardly conducted at Maseru Central Correctional Institution (MCCI) although search exercises are usually conducted.

This was said by one of the inmates, Mr. Wetsi Lelingoana when testifying before the Commission of Inquiry on the incidents of December 22, 2023.

Mr. Lelingoana, who said he was also assaulted by correctional officers during the search exercise that was conducted at the institution on the above mentioned date said he never observed any routine inspection being conducted at the institution since he was incarcerated in November 2022.

He also said he could not affirm that inmates smuggle unwanted items in the institution as such things have never been found in his prison cell.
