SECTION 2 URGES GOVERNMENT TO IMPLEMENT FOOD SUBSIDY PROGRAM

Maseru, Apr. 09 — Following a recent announcement of a seven 7 percent increase in maize product prices, Advocates for the Supremacy of the Constitution (SECTION 2) has urged the Government to implement the Food Subsidy Program.

In an interview with the Agency, the Secretary General of SECTION 2 Mr. Tjatjapa Sekabi indicated that the program will address the escalating food prices that a significant portion of the population can not afford.

He said they firmly believe that implementing a Food Subsidy Program would offer much needed relief to the hundreds of Basotho struggling with poverty.

Mr. Sekabi noted that despite the challenges facing the national finances, providing affordable food to the impoverished masses would be a profound and welcomed relief, regardless of potential impacts on other sectors.
