HA KHOELI IN DIRE NEED OF ACCESS ROAD

Maseru, Dec. 30 — Even though roads are indispensable to modern society, enabling economic growth, social interaction and improved quality of life, for

Ha Khoeli community about 30km southeast of Maseru such are far-fetched dreams.

Ha Khoeli and nearby villages like Maholong, Thoteng, Letlapeng and Ha Raboshabane are inaccessible due to lack of access road which has resulted in less or no public transport.

Some villages like Maholong, Thoteng and Ha Raboshabane do not also have toilets, electricity and water.

Speaking in an interview, Mrs. ‘Malietanyane Mosele of Letlapeng said for years they have been living in despair saying it is difficult to travel as there is no road. She said to access health services which is about 10km from their village is a nightmare because they have to walk for over two hours as there are no taxis to ferry them.

She urged the government to have mercy on them saying that they are electorates but do not have developments within their area.

Another Mrs. ‘Manthabiseng Piti from Ha Raboshabane reiterated saying that other developments such as water, toilets can wait, emphasizing that roads are their major need. She said when there is an access road it will be easy to have other developments.

She said, “even though we still defecate in the bushes or open spaces, our major need is to have an access road, other developments can follow but we need the road.”

Moreover, Community Councilor Mrs. ‘Malisanko Tsomela said their area is not far from Maseru but due to being inaccessible it appears to be far urging the government to include them in the next financial year.

She added that there is still no electricity and toilets therefore appealing to the government to consider such areas especially since villagers go to the polls in large numbers.

On the other hand, Member of Parliament for Koro-Koro constituency, Mr. Abinyane Mahatanya confirmed that access road is a major challenge in the area but was quick to point out that Ha Khoeli road falls under the Malealea Zone project which is scheduled for construction in 2026.

Meanwhile, the Roads Directorate has set aside M2.3 billion to construct and rehabilitate Lesotho’s roads infrastructure in this 2025/26 financial year to improve connectivity, boost safety, and drive economic development across the country.
