SHE-HIVE ON MARRIAGE INHERITANCE CAMPAIGNS AMID 16 OF ACTIVISM

Berea, Dec. 07 — In a bid to observe the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, SHE-HIVE took an opportunity to raise awareness about the marriage inheritance laws during the campaign staged at Teyateyaneng on Friday.

During the same campaign, people were enlightened that currently in Lesotho only two types of marriages such as customary law and civil law marriage are legally recognized so far.

When addressing members of the public, SHE-HIVE Board member and also Vice Secretary Mrs. Maamelo Letsie highlighted that many people have been living in the bondage of abuse in marriages, not knowing that there are some legal instruments like marriage inheritance laws which can protect them.

Mrs. Letsie stressed that some women had to abandon their marriages, but return at a later stage with unhealed wounds just only to keep their marriage status, to protect and nurture their children under such abusive relationships.
