SR CONQUERS SEVEN NQOE COMMUNITY COUNCILS

Maseru, Oct. 01 — The opposition Socialist Revolutionaries (SR) has conquered a total of seven out of 17 Electoral Divisions (EDs) in the Nqoe Community Councils in the Botha Bothe district when the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) announced the results on Sunday.

IEC Commissioner, Mr. Ts’oeu Petlane said SR has conquered B0303, BO306, BO312, B0313, BO315 and B0316 as well as B0317 EDs respectively.

This left the other candidates representing political parties and Independent Candidates to share the other remaining 10 EDs amongst themselves.

He mentioned that the Democratic Congress (DC) managed to win four EDS of B0307, B0310, B0311 and B0314 respectively while Movement for Economic Change (MEC) snapped three EDS of B0301, B0304 and B0305.

The Commissioner highlighted that All Basotho Convention (ABC) got a consolation of B0309 together with Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) which obtained the B0302 while Basotho Action Party (BAP) also snatched one B0309 ED respectively.

In addition, he pointed out that SR consolidated its dominance in the Nqoe Community Council by getting two special seats for women while DC also obtained two, with RFP and ABC going home with one ED each.

Mr. Petlane also announced the Mashaleng Community Council in the Mohale’s Hoek district where DC obtained six EDs, RFP taking two and AD only one ED.

For the special seats allocated to the political parties, AD, DC and RFP each got one seat.

The IEC Commissioners also announced the results for the Ts’a-le-Moleka Community Council in the Botha Bothe district where AD scooped four EDs, Independent Candidates won five EDs, RFP winning two and DC getting a consolation of one ED.

AD further strengthened its position with two additional special seats allocated to women while DC and RFP obtained one each.

Furthermore, the Qiloane Community Council in Maseru, DC scooped three EDs two went to the Independent Candidates and RFP also got two EDs with DC and RFP getting one additional special seat for women.

The Maisa-Phoka Community Council in the Leribe district saw Independent Candidates winning four EDs while RFP won three EDs and BAP going home with only one ED.

ABC, DC and RFP obtained one special seat for women to consolidate their positions.

The announcement of results is continuing since it began on Saturday, following the holding of the Local Government on Friday.
