Maseru, Jul. 25 — While TB incidence in Lesotho has dropped by 13% to 661 cases per 100,000 people in the past decade, the country still has one of the highest incidences in the world, ranking number three. Case-finding has increased from 32% in 2020 to 47% in 2023 but needs to almost double to reach national and global targets for ending TB by 2030.
The presence of Botsábelo MDR TB Hospital, located at Lepereng, has made a significant positive impact on Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) patients. Mrs. Mpho Kholoanyane, one of the nurses dealing with MDR-TB patients, indicated that the hospital has brought hope that Lesotho will end TB, although it may take time.
Mrs. Kholoanyane explained that the hospital is partitioned into different wards to accommodate patients as per their health statuses, these include an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) that can take about eight patients dependent on mechanical or medical ventilation, and three Isolation wards. . .
