Berea, January 28 — A teacher from Mantoetsi High School in Sebetia, identified as Retselisitsoe Ramoleka, was arrested by Mapoteng Police on Monday in connection with allegations of sexual harassment involving a student from the same school.
According to Senior Inspector Relebohile Mahula, the teacher allegedly subjected the 17 year-old student to repeated acts of harassment over a period of time.
The matter came to light after the student informed his parents about the alleged incidents. Concerned, the parents then reported the case to Mapoteng Police, leading to the teacher’s arrest.
Ramoleka was taken into custody and appeared before the court on the same day. During the court proceedings, the charge against him was formally read. The court granted him bail in the amount of M5,000 with an additional surety of M20,000.
However, the accused failed to meet the bail requirements and remains in custody.
Police confirmed that the suspect is currently being held in a correctional facility while awaiting trial. He is expected to make his next court appearance on February 10.
Senior Inspector Mahula stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing. He further emphasized the importance of reporting cases involving the abuse or harassment of minors, particularly within learning institutions, to ensure the safety and protection of students.
