Maseru, Jan. 24 — Detective Inspector Tankiso Lethoko has on Friday told the court that in 2017 a special team was established to investigate high profile cases including one involving the murder of Police Constable Mokalekale Khetheng.
During his testimony in a case in which Mothibeli Mofolo, Mabitle Matona, Haleokooe Taasoane and Thabo Tsukulu, all police officers are charged with the murder of Khetheng, he stated that when investigating this matter, the team was led by the then Inspector Lebajoa who is now Deputy Commissioner of Police. He added that other members of the team were himself and police officers Thamae, Mohoang, Nkeane, Seutloali, Nthejane as well as Chabalala.
He indicated that their investigations revealed that Khetheng was on March 26, 2016 taken from Tlhakanelo Molapo’s home at Sebothoane in Leribe where there was a feast, by the Leribe Police. He said they further revealed that Police Officers Makotoko, Mphutlane, Ntoane and Molapo handed over a police vehicle with Khetheng still in it, to Inspector Mofolo when they got to the Leribe Police Station, as he had instructed that he be brought there.
The witness testified that the investigations also revealed that on March 27, 2016 a body of a male was found dumped in a stream at Ha Setho in Maseru. He added that it was indicated that the body was taken to a mortuary at Ha Majane by the Mokhalinyane Police after which it was on December 07, 2016 buried at Lepereng with other unidentified corpses.
