Botha-Bothe, June 19 — Two employees of Storm Mountain Diamonds (SMD), Tholang Alex Mojeoa (61) of Ha Nyenye, Maputsoe, and Bulane Thaane (52) of Thabong, Thaba-Tseka, have appeared before the Botha-Bothe Magistrate’s Court on charges of theft involving property belonging to the mining company valued at M185,570.00.
The two accused are charged with contravening Section 57(1)(2), read together with Section 109 of the Penal Code Act No. 6 of 2010 (as amended in 2012), relating to theft.
The court heard that the accused allegedly stole five eccentric bushings belonging to Storm Mountain Diamonds, which were in the lawful possession of Daniel Finder-Van Westlyuizen. The items are estimated to have a market value of M185,570.00. The alleged offence is said to have occurred on May 15, 2026.
The first accused, Mojeoa, applied for bail and was granted bail of M5,000 with a surety of M20,000, which he paid.
However, the second accused, Thaane, is facing an additional charge of attempting to escape from lawful custody.
He has been charged under Section 89, read together with Section 109 of the Penal Code Act No. 6 of 2010 (as amended in 2012), for escape from lawful custody.
The additional charge stems from allegations that Thaane attempted to flee from the Botha-Bothe Police Station while being held in connection with the theft case.
Thaane remains in custody under the supervision of the Botha-Bothe Correctional Service and is expected to apply for bail on June 29, 2026.
