DPP REMINDED OF DUTY

Maseru, Oct.19 — The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Advocate Hlalefang Motinyane was on Thursday reminded by the High Court, through Justice Charles Hungwe, that she is a dominus litis and that her duty is to have cases heard expeditiously.

This was after the DPP had informed the court that she, through her office, is unable to transcribe an audio record of proceedings in the Mahao and Khetheng murder trials, which have been provided by the Registrar of the High Court. She insisted that they need to be provided with a transcribed record from the Registrar. She indicated that the audio they have been provided with is not audible.

She emphasised that they will only be able to do justice to the matters if they have the transcribed record as she together with the current prosecutor Adv. Rethabile Setlojoane were not present when the cases were proceeding before previous prosecutors Advocates Shaun Abrahams and Motene Rafoneke withdrew their services.
