UNESCO BACKS LAUNCH OF TEACHER TRAINING ON SEXUALITY EDUCATION

Maseru, July  27 — In a significant milestone for Lesotho’s education sector, the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) in partnership with the Lesotho College of Education (LCE) will launch a national initiative to strengthen in-service teachers’ capacity to deliver Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE).

The initiative is being supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The launch of the programme will mark the beginning of a long-awaited, sustainable and quality-focused Continuous Professional Development (CPD) effort targeting teachers across the country.

It is expected to address key challenges around the delivery of age-appropriate and scientifically accurate sexuality education in schools, in line with regional and international commitments, including the ESA (Eastern and Southern Africa) Commitment on CSE.
