US TARIFF NOT ONLY HINDRANCE-UNITE

Maseru, July 31 — Although the 50 percent tariff imposed by the United States (US) has contributed towards major job losses for factory workers, increasing electricity and water charges as well as sexual harassment, are also contributing factors.

This transpired at the press conference staged by United Textiles Employees Union (UNITE) in Maseru on Thursday.

UNITE President Mrs. ‘Malebohang Thai said most factories are hit by high electricity and water charges in this economic downturn thus failing to afford paying employees.

She added that some workers resign from factories due to sexual harassment and other forms of abuse, citing unpaid overtimes and disallowance to join workers unions as some of them…
