YOUTH TURN SLAVES OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Maseru, Aug. 28 — Substance abuse within youth ranging from the ages of 15 is reported to be a driving factor into engaging in criminal activities.

This was said by the Officer Commanding the Thetsane Police Station Senior Inspector Mosito Mokhethi.

Speaking in an interview with the Agency on Monday, Senior Inspector Mokhethi said that most cases that the said group engages in include house breaking and rape.

He showed that it is done by both sexes of girls and boys and commonly in the Ha Tsolo area.

He however pleaded with the nation to engage in all safety measures to keep safe.

Senior Inspector Mokhethi further showed that substance abuse and problematic patterns of substance use among youth can lead to problems at school, cause or aggravate physical and mental health-related issues, promote poor peer relationships and place stress on the family.

The commonly used drugs in Lesotho include alcohol and dagga.
