BNP REFUTES ALLEGATIONS

Maseru, Oct. 17 — Following news making rounds on social media that Basotho National Party (BNP) supporters are against the leader, Mr. Machesetsa Mofomobe’s motion of no confidence filed in the National Assembly, the party has refuted the said allegations.

On social media it was stated that party supporters were singing and chanting at the party’s premises. It was added that the angry supporters indicated that the leader filed the motion at his own will without their consent thus they did not know about the motion.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, BNP Member of Parliament (MP) Mrs. ‘Masetota Leshota said that it is not true that the supporters are angry saying that they do not know what the person spreading such lies wants to achieve.

She explained that there is nothing that the Leader can do without the consent of the executive committee therefore emphasizing that they knew about the motion.

Meanwhile on Friday last week, Basotho National Party leader Mr. Mofomobe filed the motion seconded by the Makhaleng legislator Mr. Mootsi Lehata.

In the motion, they cited that they long longer have confidence in His Majesty’s Government led by Mr. Matekane and therefore recommended the name of opposition and Democratic Congress (DC) Leader Mr. Mathibeli Mokhothu.

The debate on the motion could not proceed during Monday’s Parliament sitting due to the court case in the courts of law which is directly challenging the same motion.

BNP is one of the opposition parties in the National Assembly with only two seats in the National Assembly through the Proportional Representation (PR).
