Mokhotlong, March 15 — Farmers have been urged to increase agricultural production in order to supply companies engaged in a huge project for construction of Polihali dam in the district with organic food.
The District Agricultural Officer Mr. Leluma Bereng said this in his remarks when addressing farmers and sellers at a one day market day organised by the department of Marketing under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition as well as the Smallholder Agriculture Development Project (SADP) II.
He said SADP II is doing a significant job by supporting farmers with technologies to enable farmers to embark on climate smart agriculture hence the advice to ensure they improve agricultural production not only for subsistance farming but also for commercial purposes.
Mr. Bereng also appealed to farmers to approach Extension Officers at different Agricultural Resource Centres in the district and seek advice on the crops they can plant especially now when the world is facing climate change so as to practice climate smart agriculture as it is currently being recommended.
