Thaba Tseka, Dec 03 — The Deputy Principal in the Ministry of Law Mrs. Thato Masiloane says launching of the Legal Aid office in the district is a great milestone.
She said access to fair hearing are among the basic human rights which the public need to be provided for.
She further highlighted that it gives them joy to launch the service saying that is long overdue adding that it is going help elderly, vulnerable members of the society.
She said hence the establishment of decentralised offices so that they come to fruition as they will serve everyone without having to worry about lack of funds.
‘We employ all stakeholders to support the initiative’, she said. She said European Union (EU) has also helped funded to purchase the parkhomes in Qacha’s Nek and Mokhotlong for the same offices.

Chief Legal Aid Council Mary ‘Nyane said the launch of the office marks an important milestone in the government’s commitment to strengthening access to Justice for all the people in this country.
She said for many years, underprivileged individuals have faced challenges accessing Legal services due to financial limitations even though the constitution guarantees the right to a fair trial and freedom from discrimination, protected by fundamental human rights and freedoms.
She continued to state that happened because they lacked the means to secure Legal representation, many people grave injustices adding that many individuals surrendered and were imprisoned for crimes they did not commit.
She said the primary objective of the launch is to ensure that individuals, regardless of their income has effective and affordable access to Justice. . .
