BEREA — The Minister of Gender, Youth, and Social Development, Mr. Pitso Lesaoana, on Wednesday handed over 11 wheelchairs, two white canes, and a pair of orthopedic shoes.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Minister Lesaoana commended persons with disabilities for their resilience, creativity, and leadership despite the social and physical barriers they continue to face. He emphasized that inclusive participation is essential for national development.

“Social progress depends on participation and allowing every individual to contribute their ideas, talents, and innovations,” he said.
The minister further urged communities and institutions to strengthen disability-responsive policies, remove physical and communication barriers, promote sign language, and enhance disability awareness across the country.
One of the disabled persons Mr. Sekhohola Lefisoane, expressed gratitude for his new wheelchair, explaining that it will make his daily life significantly easier.
Mr Lefisoane also mentioned that he previously struggled to cook and perform basic tasks independently.
These gifts were given to honour International Day for Persons living with disabilities to show love and care.
