TSÁNE FOUNDATION TO ESTABLISH YOUTH REHABILITATION CENTRE

Maseru, Apr. 20 — The Tsáne Foundation has announced plans to establish a rehabilitation centre at Ha Marakabei as part of efforts to address youth unemployment and rising cases of depression among young people.

Speaking in an interview, the Executive Director of Tsáne Foundation, Mr. Lekhetho Khama, revealed that the initiative will make use of already existing structures in the area, which are set to be revived to accommodate the project.

Mr. Khama explained that once operational, the centre will focus on equipping young people with practical and income-generating skills. These will include sewing and knitting of various garments, as well as training in cooperative management and other entrepreneurial skills.

He further highlighted that the centre will incorporate mentorship programmes rooted at grassroots level, ensuring that young people receive guidance and support from within their own communities.

Mr. Khama emphasised that the primary objective of the initiative is to transform young people into job creators rather than job seekers, thereby fostering self-reliance and contributing to economic growth.

The establishment of the centre is expected to play a significant role in empowering youth, while also addressing mental health challenges linked to unemployment and lack of opportunities.
