ANOTHER SHOCKING CASE OF CONCEALED BIRTH UNFOLDS IN QACHA’SNEK

Qacha’s Nek, June. 30 — A 23-year-old woman from Ha Mohlapiso is in Qacha’s Nek police custody for allegedly concealing the birth of her baby girl by burying her in an ash heap (thotobolo) on May 21.

According to Detective Inspector Thabo Setenane, head of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at Qacha’s Nek Police Station, the case came to light after a Village Health Worker (VHW) who had earlier observed the woman’s pregnancy noticed that she had suddenly returned to her normal shape without a baby in sight.

“The village women gathered and asked what had happened to the pregnancy. They were stunned when she told them the baby was buried a month ago,” said Detective Inspector Setenane.

He confirmed that the police were immediately alerted and responded swiftly.

“Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will appear in court once everything is complete,” he added.

Detective Inspector Setenane urged parents especially mothers to foster open and trusting relationships with their daughters.
