Qacha’s Nek, June.30 — A 45-year-old man from Thabana-Liphofu was gunned down in the early hours of Sunday near Sekake bus stop, prompting police to plead with communities to surrender illegal firearms.
Speaking to the Agency, Detective Inspector Thabo Setenane, the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Manager at Qacha’s Nek Police Station, confirmed the shooting and issued a passionate appeal: “I plead with everyone from all walks of life to hand over illicit firearms,” he said.

According to Detective Inspector Setenane, the incident followed a horse racing event held at Sekake racecourse on Saturday, June 28, which attracted large crowds from near and far.
He said when the race ended in the afternoon, a local liquor outlet hosted a snooker competition for the whole Saturday night into Sunday.
