Maseru, June.30 — The Joint Meeting of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Committee of Senior Officials Responsible for Energy and Water officially commenced today in Harare, Zimbabwe.
This high-level technical session sets the stage for the upcoming Ministerial Meeting scheduled for July 04, with sector-specific meetings continuing through to July 02.
The objective of the Senior Officials’meeting is to assess progress on the implementation of past Ministerial decisions, identify emerging challenges, and prepare actionable recommendations to inform policy direction in the energy and water sectors.

Speaking at the opening session, Dr. Gloria Magombo, Permanent Secretary in Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Energy and Power Development and Chairperson of the Meeting, noted:
“Our region faces a triple crisis: rapid population growth, the escalating impacts of climate change, and rising demand for water and energy. These challenges are transboundary and require unified regional and continental responses.” . . .
