BEREA , November 4 – A shooting incident claimed the lives of two men on Saturday evening at Mokomahatsi village, located under the authority of Headman ’Matiiso Hlajoane in Bela Bela.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at approximately 21:30 at a local general café where community members often gather in the evenings. It is alleged that three unidentified men entered the premises pretending to be ordinary customers. One of the men reportedly approached the counter and asked to buy a cigarette. Moments later, he unexpectedly drew a firearm and opened fire, fatally shooting the café owner and one male customer who was inside at the time.
Senior Inspector Relebohile Mahula from Mapoteng Police said the suspects did not engage in any argument or warning before the shooting. “An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the cash register, and the suspects fled the scene, “he said.
Police officers from the Mapoteng Police Station arrived shortly after receiving the alert and found the two men lying in a pool of blood. They were pronounced dead at the scene and later transported to the mortuary.
Senior Inspector Mahula confirmed that the suspects remain at large, and no arrests have been made so far. He urged anyone who may have seen the suspects or has any information that could assist the investigation to come forward or report anonymously to the nearest police station.
