ASSOCIATION ENCOURAGES BASOTHO TO GO FOR ELECTIONS

Mokhotlong, Sept. 06 — Migrant Workers Association of Lesotho has deployed voter educators in different Community Councils of Mokhotlong to sensitise the public about the importance of participating in the elections.

The Association’s Executive Director, Mr. Lerato Nkhets’e said through voter education the public is encouraged to take part in the upcoming Local Government elections scheduled for September 29 this year.

He said voter education is also intended to increase voter turnout which seems to be dropping in the past elections.

Mr. Nkhets’e said Migrant Workers Association of Lesotho is one of the six Non-Governmental Organisation that have been engaged by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to enhance voter education, adding that the Association has been deployed in Mokhotlong to ensure voter education is enhanced.

Mokhotlong has five Councils that include Urban, Mphokojoane, Sanqebethu, Menoaneng and Seate.

The Migrant Workers Association of Lesotho was established with a view to educate migrant workers about their rights for protection and promote civic engagement on issues of national concern such as the Elections.

It is also working tirelessly to create public awareness of issues related to Trafficking in Persons.
