BAR BREAK-IN LANDS MAKHOALI BEHIND BARS

Qacha’s Nek, Sept. 16 — Magistrate Ponts’o Jankie-Lehasa of Qacha’s Nek Magistrate Court has sentenced 20 year-old Lehlohonolo Makhoali of Ha Manteko to two years in prison, or pay a fine of M2,000 for housebreaking and theft.

Makhoali was found guilty of breaking into Selibeng Public Bar on September 1, 2025, and stealing M600 in cash and a carton of cigarettes worth M100, property of Mr. Thabiso Lefora.

He was charged under Section 65 (2) read with 109 (1) of the Penal Code Act No. 6 of 2010, with an alternative charge under Section 343 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act No. 9 of 1981.

In delivering judgment, Magistrate Jankie-Lehasa noted that although Makhoali is a first-time offender and had cooperated with the court, housebreaking has become a troubling trend in Qacha’s Nek.
