Qacha’s Nek, Sept. 16 — The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) on Tuesday conducted an assessment for selected Grade 3 and 7 primary school teachers in three core subjects that include Mathematics, Sesotho and English.
Pupils had already undergone similar assessments in May 2025.
In an interview with the Agency, District Education Manager (DEM), Mr. Lebenya Mothibeli said the assessment, held every two years, is designed to measure the effectiveness of teaching.
“We want to establish whether teachers impart knowledge as expected. When pupils pass the assessment, it reflects the teacher’s competency. To confirm this, we also give teachers the same test. In some cases, pupils perform better than teachers, which raises the question of whether learners are taught effectively or are sourcing knowledge elsewhere,” he said.
